Southern Tier Sports Report
Section 4 soccer action, high school football and the IAC Cross Country Championships highlight the day in local sports.

There are a pair of soccer finals, a matchup in football between two local teams, as area teams wrap up the regular season, and cross country.

Here’s what’s on the schedule.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
SECTION 4, CLASS AA FINAL
5 P.M. AT WAVERLY
ELMIRA VS. CORNING

Top seeded Elmira, with an 8-5 record, takes on second-seeded Corning Painted-Post, with a 5-6 record. The two teams met twice this year, with Corning winning the first matchup 1-0 and Elmira winning the second game 1-0 in two overtimes. The two teams are meeting in the final for the second straight year. A year ago Elmira won the game. Elmira is ranked 27th in the state.

BOYS’ SOCCER
SECTION 4, CLASS AA FINAL
7 P.M. AT WAVERLY
CORNING VS. ELMIRA

Top seeded Corning, with a 13-2-1 record, takes on third-seeded Elmira, with a 9-6 record. Elmira beat Ithaca to reach the final. Corning won the two matchups this year, 4-0 and 3-1. Corning is ranked 15th in the state. Elmira is unranked, but the Ithaca team they beat in the semifinals was ranked 18th in the state.

FOOTBALL
HORSEHEADS AT ELMIRA, 7 P.M.

The two rivals wrap up the regular season against each other. Elmira has already wrapped up the second seed in sectionals and a home game next week, while Horseheads will be on the road for the playoffs. Elmira is 5-2 on the year, coming off a win over state-ranked Fayetteville-Manlius a week ago, while Horseheads is 4-4 on the year.

CORNING AT ITHACA, 7 P.M.

The Hawks are 4-3 on the season, while the Little Red are 1-7 on the year. Corning is looking to finish the regular season with an above .500 record. The Hawks have already wrapped up a division title and a bye next week in the playoffs.

CROSS COUNTRY
NOTRE DAME, EDISON AT IAC CHAMPIONSHIPS AT MARATHON, 4 P.M.

The Crusaders and Spartans head to Marathon to run in the league meet. Piper Young of Notre Dame will be one of the top girls in the field, while the Edison girls have had a strong season as a team.
