HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' SOCCER: ROSNO'S HAT TRICK HELPS CORNING WIN ON ROAD; HAWKS TO FACE CORNING-WEST GRAD'S STATE-RANKED TEAM SATURDAY (2022-09-24)

Southern Tier Sports Report
ATHENS — The Corning Hawks played the first of back-to-back non-league matchups this weekend and came away with a road win 5-1 at Athens.

“The Corning guys started to shake off the cobwebs a bit,” Corning coach Chad Freelove said. “We started to find angled passes and runs. The defense did a nice job of keeping most everything in front of them.”

Carter Rosno had a hat trick for the Hawks and Jackson Casey and Colton Loeber each added goals in the game.

Nate Freelove had three assists for Corning and Liam Bayne and Rosno each had assists in the contest.

Korey Miller scored the Athens goal.

Corning had 19 shots and seven corner kicks and Athens had four shots and no corner kicks.

Caleb Anderson had a pair of saves for the Hawks.

Corning is back in action Saturday as they face a tough test in a battle of state-ranked teams.

Corning, No. 9 in the state in Class AA rankings, hosts SS Seward, No. 16 in the Class C rankings, at noon in Corning.

The matchup was set up as coach William Steele, a Corning West 1984 graduate and the current SS Seward coached, reached out in the offseason.
