HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' SWIMMING & DIVING: HORSEHEADS' ANNA LOWE MAKES STATES; CORNING'S MCKANE HAS RECORD-SETTING DAY IN WG INVITE PRELIMS (2022-09-24)

WATKINS GLEN — Local swimmers found success in the prelims at the Invitational in the Glen Swimming and Diving meet on Friday afternoon.

Anna Lowe of Horseheads qualified for states for the first time in her career, hitting the mark in the 50 free.

In the 200 medley relay Corning’s team of Maria Kuksenkova, Audra Hilker, Carolyn Heckle and Angie McKane sit second after the prelims in 1:54.46 and Horseheads is third with a team of Anna and Sibby Lowe, Gabby Janeski and Grace Shelhamer in 1:56.43.

McKane was four seconds under the state cut time in the 200 IM prelims to lead in 2:08.77. Notre DAme’s Allie O’Brien is eighth in 2:23.89.

Horseheads’ Shelhamer is 12th in the 200 IM in 2:32.55 and teammate Karina Lapierre is 16th in 2:37.03.

McKane broke her own pool record, and was five seconds under the state cut time in the 100 fly in 55.14. Horseheads’ Sibby Lowe is fourth at 1:02.62 and Mia Carro is eighth at 1:07.17.

Horseheads’ Shelhamer is 10th in 1:08.57 and Janeski is 13th in 1:10.16, while HIlker is 15th in 1:10.23.

Corning’s Kara Peters is sixth in the 500 free in 5:32.83 and in the 100 backstroke Horseheads’ Anna Lowe is sixth in 1:02.93 while O’Brien is eighth in 1:04.10.  

In the 500 free Caitlyn Bain is 13th in 5:57.60 and Delaney Woodhouse is 16th in 6:04.86. In the 100 back Lapierre was 13th in 1::07.09.

Horseheads’ Anna and Sibby Lowe, Woodhouse and Ringer are fifth in the 400 free relay in 3:59.66 and Corning’s team of Kyra Gross, Hilker, Caton Riesbeck and Peters are eighth in 4:13.57.

Peters is eighth in the 200 free in 2:05.80 and Woodhouse is 14th in 2:11.31.

Anna Lowe hit the state standard with a 49.49 in the 50 free earning a trip to states, while her sister Sibby Lowe was just behind her in 25.27. Heckle was sixth in 25.88.

Gracie Ringer of Horseheads was ninth in 26.21 in the prelims and Kuksenkova was 11th in 26.82.

In the 100 free Heckle was seventh in the prelims in 58.51 followed by Ringer (59.09).

Anh Thu Tran of Horseheads was 11th in the 100 free prelims in 59.69 and Corning’s Gross was 16th in 1:02.45.

Corning’s team of McKane, Kuksenkova, Heckle and Peters are second in the 200 free relay in 1:40.30 and Horseheads team of Ringer, Sibby Lowe, Shelhamer and Janeski are fifth in 1:46.12.

Corning’s Hilker is eighth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.05 and Horseheads’ Jenseki is 14th in 1:20.01 while teammate Jessica Campbell is 16th in 1:23.34.

There are also C finals in each race. In the 200 IM Mia Carro of Horseheads is 18th and Campbell is 19th after the prelims. Notre Dame’s Hannah Gonzalez is 22nd in the 100 fly and in the 500 free Lily Hall of Horseheads is 20th, while teammate Jackie Mayotte is 23rd and Gonzalez is 24th.

In the 100 back Tran is 17th in 1:08.91 followed by Kuksenkova is 18th and Nicole Miller of Corning is 20th.

In the 200 free Bain is 18th followed by Carro. Gross is 20th in the 50 free and Alexis Collins of Notre Dame is 24th.

Riesbeck is 23rd in the 100 free in 1:04.91 followed by Mackenzie Grover in 1:04.96. Kaitlin Wheeler is 17th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:23.52 and Corning’s Riesbeck is 22nd at 1:25.02 followed by Erika Liu at 1:25.70.
