JOHNSON CITY — The Southern Tier bounced back from back-to-back losses at the 10th Annual BCANY Summer Hoops Festival here Friday to win three in a row Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, ST defeated Nassau, 80-61, then bested Capital, 72-62. In Sunday’s fifth place game, the Tier topped Buffalo, 61-58.

SATURDAY
SOUTHERN TIER 80, NASSAU 61
Mekai Lindsey’s last three baskets came from long range as the Tier won big. The Union-Endicott standout led the team with a 15-point effort.

U-E teammate Larry Morse added 11 and Vestal’s Jalan Johnson added 10.

Horseheads Amauri and Jeremy Truax scored nine points apiece. Ithaca’s Sincere Clemons, Seton Catholic’s Drew Erickson and Maine-Endwell’s Aidan Fenkl put up five points each. Owego’s Joe and John Bangel contributed four and three, respectively, and Marathon’s Conor Holland tacked on a basket.

Nassau’s Dominic Obukuelu led all scorers with 19 points. Josh Garelle and Rob Pericolosi added 11 apiece.

SOUTHERN TIER 72, CAPITAL 62
Southern Tier grabbed a 33-29 halftime advantage on the strength of five 3-pointers, then made five more in the second half.

Fenkl accounted for half of the team’s treys. His last four buckets all came from downtown. He finished with a game-high 18 points.

The Tier also sank a dozen of its 14 free throws after intermission to help seal the deal.

Johnson hit six foul shots and Jeremy Truax accounted for four more. They closed out the day with 15 and seven points, respectively.

Lindsey had eight points, Amauri Truax scored six, John Bangel added five, Morse and Erickson hit for four each, and Joe Bangel and Clemons chipped in with two apiece.

Isaiah and Peyton Smith led Capital with 12 points each. Alex Schmidt had 11.

SUNDAY
SOUTHERN TIER 61, BUFFALO 58
The Tier avenged Friday’s 71-61 loss to claim fifth place.

Johnson scored half the team’s points, going 7-for-8 at the foul line as it grabbed a 30-24 lead at intermission. Lindsey added eight more.

The duo scored 19 and 17 points, respectively, to lead the charge.

John Bangel scored six points, Morse added five, Holland pitched in with four, Erickson and Amauri Truax chipped in with three apiece, and Jeremy Truax, Clemons and Fenkl had two points each.

Xander Fletcher led Buffalo with 14 points. Lucas Brown and Nick Moore tacked on 13 apiece.
