WAVERLY — Waverly banged out 17 hits, and a pair of its pitchers allowed just one in a 19-1 rout of Elmira Heights Tuesday evening in pool play action in the District 6 Little League Majors Division baseball action.

Waverly finishes pool play tied with Big Flats, which beat Horseheads, 11-2, atop the standings with both teams at 4-1. Horseheads and Corning are 3-2.

Jay Pipher earned the win on the mound for Waverly, allowing an unearned run on one hit, striking out eight and walking one.

Axel Murray finished off the game with two innings of scoreless relief, striking out four and walking one.

Waverly scored a pair of runs in the first inning, with Griffin Walter knocking in the first run with an RBI double, then added another run in the second on an RBI single by Gabe Hendershot to take a 3-0 lead.

Elmira Heights scored a run in the home half of the second to close the gap to 3-1, but a two-run home run by Walter, and an RBI double by Hayden Roskow provided three runs in the top of the third inning to extend Waverly’s advantage to 6-1.

Waverly tacked on another run in the fourth and fifth innings to push its lead to 8-1, then poured 11 runs across the plate in the sixth inning, with a three-run double by Bowman, and a three-run single by Hendershot doing the most damage.

Walter had four hits, including a home run and two doubles, scored three runs, and had five RBI to pace Waverly at the plate, while Bowman had three hits, including two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI, and Hayden Roskow doubled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs.

Pipher doubled and singled, and scored three runs in the win, while Hendershot singled twice, scored one run, and had three RBI, Chase Sinsabaugh doubled and singled, and scored two runs, Lambert singled twice, and scored three runs, and Axel Murray and Maddux Presher each scored a pair of runs.
