DISTRICT SIX LITTLE LEAGUE ALL-STARS (MAJORS): BIG SECOND INNING THE DIFFERENCE AS HORSEHEADS FALLS TO WAVERLY (20 PHOTOS) (2022-07-01)

HORSEHEADS — A six-run second inning broke the game open and proved to be the difference as Waverly topped Horseheads 7-2 in District 6 Little League Majors action on Friday.

Horseheads entered the game unbeaten, while Waverly came in 2-1. With the Waverly win, and previously unbeaten Big Flats falling to Corning, there are three teams (Horseheads, Big Flats and Waverly) all tied at 3-1 in pool play, while Corning is 2-2.

Horseheads struck first as the visiting team at home, scoring a first-inning run. Waverly answered with a run to tie the game after one.

In the second inning Horseheads went up 2-1, before Waverly came back with the six-run inning.

Horseheads had seven hits in the game, with Noah Cady notching a double in the win.

Braedyn Gulich, Owen Torgalski, Evan Solesha, Nolan Parsons, Josiah Shanks and Jackson Bell all had hits for Horseheads. Torgalski and Bell had RBI and Solesha and Jett Janniro each scored runs in the game.

Carson Monthie worked 1 1/3 innings, striking out two and Torgalski threw two innings of shutout relief to end the game, striking out three and allowing one hit. Braden Sternquist struck out two over 1 2/3 innings of relief.

Brady Lambert, Jack Pipher and Made Presher all had two hits for Waverly in the game.

Griffin Walter struck out nine and allowed six hits in five innings, allowing two runs, one earned and Lambert worked an inning of one-hit, shutout relief.
