Southern Tier Sports Report
A pair of area teams won sectional girls’ lacrosse titles, and both teams are well represented on the first All-Southern Tier Sports Report All-Star teams.

Ashlee Volpe was an All-American pick and a sectional all-star. She’s a Syracuse commit who had a dominant return to the field this year coming back from an injury. She headlines the team as the All-STSR Player of the Year.

Volpe’s teammate Jenna DiNardo reached 100 career goals this year as a junior and the Virginia commit is the Offensive Player of the Year.

UMass-Lowell commit Hannah Shaddock was a force in net for the Section 4, Class A Champion Hawks and she is the goalie of the year.

Elmira’s Morgan Reidy is a four-year starter, three-year captain for Elmira. She was a first-team all-league defender and she is the Defensive Player of the Year.

Anna Lowe scored 21 goals and had six assists this year for the Class B sectional champion Horseheads Blue Raiders and she is the newcomer of the year.

Corning won their first sectional title since 2018, beating rival Ithaca in the final and coach Kevin Scanlon is the coach of the year.

The first team includes Volpe at attack, along with teammate Lexi Lapierre, Elmira’s Delaney Malone and Brooke Sumner of Horseheads.

The midfield includes DiNardo along with teammate Katie Grottenthaler and Horseheads’ Alexis Guzylak.

On defense Reidy is on first team with Corning’s Sydne Franceschelli and Horseheads’ Lauren Forester, while Shaddock is the first team goalie.

The second team includes Lowe, Horseheads’ Vanessa Stevens and Emma Romanski and Alyssa Dobson of Corning on the attack.

The midfield features Mia Capilli of Elmira, Horseheads’ Erin Christmas and Niagara commit Maddy Gill of Corning, who missed most of the year, but had a big impact down the stretch for the Hawks when she returned.

Riley Keeler and Brooklyn Batzing of Corning are on defense along with Jordyn Robinson of Horseheads and Horseheads goalie Abby May is on the second team.
