ELMIRA — Corning’s two golfers each improved on their first day, but came up short in their bid to qualify for states at the Section IV Medalist Tournament at Mark Twain on Saturday.

After an 88 on Thursday, Luca Neally finished with a round of 86 on Saturday to finish at 174, tied for 18th in the tournament. He entered sitting 19th after day one.

Neally had an eagle on the eighth hole to highlight his day.

Nishant Lahiri tied for the ninth best round of the day on Saturday with an 81. Lahiri had shot an 87 on Thursday and he finished the two-days at 168.

Lahiri sat tied for 17th after Thursday’s round. For the two days his total of 168 placed him tied for 14th, but he finished just two shots out of qualifying for states. The top nine golfers made it to the state meet. The eighth and ninth golfers among the state qualifiers finished at 166, just two shots in front of the Corning junior.
