SECTION 4 BOYS' LACROSSE: NOTRE DAME RALLIES FROM 2-0 DOWN TO TOP WINDSOR 6-2 IN SECTIONAL QUARTERS (24 PHOTOS) (2022-05-21)

Southern Tier Sports Report
SOUTHPORT — Down 2-0 early, the Notre Dame Crusaders turned up the defense, shutting down Windsor the rest of the way in a 6-2 win in the first game of the Section 4, Class D boys’ lacrosse playoffs.

Grant Crossley had a big game in net with 11 saves. Crossley’s 10th save of the night put him at 1,066 for his career, passing Jake Reynolds of Massachusetts for No. 10 all-time in the nation.

“Garrin Dougherty, Griffin English and Ayden Bellamy, on close defense, played great the rest of the game with the help of defense kids — Vinny Campanelli, Kevin Green, Sean Franzese and Xander Gillette. Ryan Brewer had seven takeaways to help shutout Windsor in the last 30 minutes of the game.”

The offense was sparked by Franzese on a fast break as he put it past the Windsor goalie to start a 6-0 run.

Shane Maloney had three goals for Notre Dame.

Finn Schweizer, Kellan Murphy and Franzese had goals for Notre Dame and Grene had an assist.

Windsor had 14 saves in goal.

The Crusaders travel to top-seeded Chenango Forks on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
