Southern Tier Sports Report
HORSEHEADS — With the game tied in the sixth inning the Horseheads JV baseball team needed some late magic in order to win a fifth straight STAC Championship.

That’s exactly what the Blue Raiders got as they scored six runs in the sixth inning to top Owego 8-2 to finish the season 13-0 and win their fifth straight championship.

“No other program has a varsity coach combine practice the first month so our kids can learn from the varsity kids,” Horseheads JV coach Andy Scott said. “Coach (Jeff) Limoncelli has built a true program.

“This is the fifth straight STAC Championship for the Horseheads JVs. Commitment to excellence is the motto of this program and the 15 players bought into the process. Special thanks to assistant coach Thomas Oliver for his commitment and dedication to the JV program.”

Josh Stout and Micah Hays each had a pair of hits, with a double in the game for Horseheads.

Kegan Monahan, Devin Sullivan, Hunter Matkosky and Brendan Clark all had hits for the Blue Raiders.

Sullivan scored two runs and Matkosky, Cooper Ball, Clark, Hays, Stout and Monahan all scored runs in the contest.

Stout, Adrian Solometo, Matkosky and Clark had RBI for the Blue Raiders.

Solometo went five innings on the mound, striking out eight and allowing three hits, with one walk. Clark allowed two hits and one run, while striking out three and getting the win in relief.
