ON TAP TODAY: ELMIRA BOYS TRAVEL TO HORSEHEADS IN SOCCER ACTION (2021-09-16)
Southern Tier Sports ReportA day after Mother Nature left just one game on the schedule, it looks like the weather will allow for a more normal day today.
It’s been a week worth of local rivalries in soccer and that continues today as the Horseheads boys host Elmira one day after the two girls teams met.
Here’s a look at all the day’s games.
BOYS’ SOCCERELMIRA AT HORSEHEADS, 7:30 P.M.: Yesterday it was the girls teams meeting up, and today the boys get a turn. Both teams are coming off hard-fought losses in their last game. Elmira dropped a tough 2-1 game against Ithaca in their last contest, while Horseheads tied the game against Corning in the final 10 minutes, before the Hawks ultimately won the game.
NOTRE DAME AT WATKINS GLEN, 6:30 P.M.: The Crusaders hit the road for an IAC matchup.
VOLLEYBALLSPENCER VAN-ETTEN AT EDISON, 6:30 P.M.: The Spartans had as tough of a start to the schedule as you can get, opening IAC play with Tioga and Candor back-to-back. Edison enters this contest off a win after sweeping Newark Valley on the road Tuesday.
GIRLS’ SOCCERCHENANGO VALLEY AT CORNING, 7:30 P.M.:The Hawks will look to get back in the win column after dropping their first game of the season, 1-0 in overtime, to Horseheads on Monday.
SWIMMINGBINGHAMTON AT HORSEHEADS, 5:30 P.M.:The Blue Raiders will look to move to 3-0 on the year as the host the Patriots. Horseheads won their home opener over Union-Endicott on Tuesday.
GOLFELMIRA AT CORNING, 4 P.M.:The Hawks are unbeaten in dual meet action this year as they welcome Elmira to the Corning Country Club.
TENNISMAINE-ENDWELL AT ELMIRA, 5:30 P.M.:The Express continue their tennis season with a home match, a day after a scheduled matchup with Corning was postponed due to weather.
