IAC CROSS COUNTRY: NOTRE DAME FINDS SUCCESS IN OPENING MEET (2021-09-10)

Southern Tier Sports Report
WATKINS GLEN — The Notre Dame cross country teams were short in numbers, but big in success during a season-opening meet at Watkins Glen.

“We had a good meet despite the scores, as we only ran a partial squad on both the boys and girls side,” Notre Dame coach Chris Wise said. “All of the returning runners ran better times at the start of this season than they did at the start of the shortened spring season.”

While the Crusaders didn’t have enough runners to score as a team, they had the girls’ winner, the modified winner, and a sixth-place finisher in the boys race.

In the girls race Piper Young was dominant, winning in 20:51.06, finishing more than 45 seconds ahead of runner-up Harper Minaker of Waverly (21:37).

Notre Dame had just two girls runners, but the other runner also was a top seven finisher, taking seventh in 24:42.

The boys also had just two runners, but Derek Simpson finished sixth in 20:24.58. Neil Moore finished 23rd in 25:56.17 for the Crusaders.

In the modified race Gavin Meier was the race winner in 9:45.07. Dominic Capuriccio finished seventh in 10:41.92 and Claire Devlin was one of the top girls finishers in 12:17.45.
