Friday Night Lights hits New York State today as football season gets into full swing for area teams.

For the first time ever the Horseheads Blue Raiders will have a Friday night home game under the lights as they open their new stadium.

The Blue Raiders will host a White Out against Vestal in front of a packed house in their new turf stadium. It’s not only the first home football game under lights, it’s the first time Horseheads has had a turf stadium.

While the Blue Raiders open up their stadium today, the Corning Hawks are ready for a Black Out as they host Ithaca in front of what they expect to be a packed house.

While there are the pair of football games on the day, there is also an in-city matchup in girls soccer as the Notre Dame girls play host to Elmira.

A look at today’s events.

FOOTBALL
VESTAL AT HORSEHEADS, 7 p.m.: The Blue Raiders will open their brand new stadium with a home game against Vestal. Horseheads expects a packed house at their new multi-sport turf stadium.

ITHACA AT CORNING, 7 p.m.: The Hawks have a new coach this year as Mike Johnston Jr. takes the helm as they open the season with a division matchup against Ithaca.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
ELMIRA AT NOTRE DAME, 5:30 P.M.: The Express enter the game with a 2-0 record on the season, while the Crusaders are 1-0 on the year as they head into the game.

TENNIS
HORSEHEADS AT CORNING, 4 P..M.: The Hawks welcome the rival Blue Raiders to town. Corning is 4-0 on the season, while Horseheads is looking for their first win of the season.

ITHACA AT ELMIRA, 5:30 P.M.: The short-handed express play host to the Little Red.

SWIMMING
JOHNSON CITY AT ELMIRA, 5:30 P.M.: The Express open their season with a match against Johnson City.
