THE WEEK AHEAD: WRESTLING HOLDS SECTION 4 DUALS, STAC CHAMPIONSHIPS, SOME RIVALRIES ON THE BASKETBALL COURT (2022-01-16)

Wrestling hits some postseason in the STAC, while there are again some rivalry matchups on the hardwoods.

It’s a light start to the week with the holiday, and Mother Nature could always impact this week’s schedule.

Overall there are 29 events on the schedule, nine of those coming on Wednesday.

Here’s a look day-by-day at the schedule, including how many events each day.

MONDAY (1)
* The Corning bowlers head to Gates Chili for the Dave Roethel Memorial.

TUESDAY (6)
* There are a pair of girls’ basketball games on the schedule as the Corning girls head to Ithaca for a STAC matchup, while Edison’s girls host Notre Dame.

* The Notre Dame boys play host to Edison. The Spartans picked up their first win of the year last week. Notre Dame won the previous matchup between the two teams.

* There are a pair of swimming and diving meets, highlighted by Corning at Horseheads. Horseheads was first and Corning second in Class A at the Elmira Invite. The Elmira swimmers and divers are at Binghamton.

* The Edison bowlers head to Candor.

WEDNESDAY (9)
* Corning and Horseheads are at Horseheads for the Section 4 Duals. Horseheads hosts Corning in the semifinals. Also in wrestling action Edison plays host to Marathon.

* There are four bowling matches on the schedule. Corning is at Binghamton, Horseheads heads to Vestal, Elmira plays host to Johnson City and Notre Dame is at Union-Springs/Port Byron.

* The Elmira girls are at Horseheads. The two teams just met recently with Horseheads winning at Elmira.

* The Horseheads boys are at Elmira. In the last matchup it was a thriller with Horseheads rallying from 20 down to beat the Express. The Corning boys play host to Ithaca.

THURSDAY (2)
* The Elmira swimming and diving team plays host to Johnson City.

* The Edison bowlers head to Odessa-Montour.

FRIDAY (5)
* The Corning, Horseheads and Elmira wrestlers head to Elmira for the STAC Championships.

* The Notre Dame boys basketball team plays host to Lansing, while the Notre Dame girls head to Lansing.

* The Edison girls’ basketball team heads to Dryden, while the boys play host to Dryden.

SATURDAY (6)
* Horseheads, Corning and Elmira all head to Elmira for the STAC Championships.

* The Edison wrestlers head to Waverly for the IAC Championships.

* The Corning, Elmira and Horseheads swimmers and divers head to Waverly for the Wolverine Invite.

* The Elmira and Horseheads cheerleaders head to Horseheads for the It’s Snow Time Cheer Challenge.

* The Elmira girls head to the Buffalo area to take on Sat. Mary’s in a battle of state-ranked teams.

* The Horseheads boys head to Johnson City for a STAC matchup.
