INDOOR T&F: CORNING HAS DOMINANT DAY AT MEET IN BROCKPORT (2022-01-16)

It was another dominant day for the Corning track and field team at an RWTL-North Meet in Brockport on Saturday.

Corning went 1-2 and had four of the top five in the 3200 meters for the boys. Joshua Beres won in 10:13.42 followed by teammate Jaxyn Mahoney (10.22.46). Hayden Allington was fourth in 10:48.04 followed by Greg Homa in 10:51.10.

For the girls Sarah Lawson won the 3000 in 10:32.79 while teammates Bri Urban (12:01.46), Taylor Farrell (12:07.87) and Meghan McLaughlin (12:10.37) took fourth through sixth respectively. Corning’s Sara Togni was 10th in 14:46.09.

Atalyia Rijo won the 55 meters for Corning in 7.75, her first win of the winter season, and Cameron Mase took ninth in 8.40.

Gyasi Ruffin of Corning won the 600 in 1:31.25 followed by teammate Marcus Homa (1:31.42), while teammate Alex Chen took seventh (1:42.25).

Faithe Ketchum got her first win of the winter in the 1000, winning in 3:13.97. Coming off an injury that slowed her at the end of cross country, Ketchum led a 1-2-3-4 finish for Corning, who had eight of the top 10 finishers in the event.

Lawson was second in 3:19.15 followed by Lauren Gerow (3:28.65) and Sadie Beres (3:28.85). Kyra Gross took sixth in 3:29.56 followed by Megan Kirk (3:34.15). Lilia Mack took ninth in 3:37.16 and Margaret Cleary (3:42.41).

Farrell won the race walk in 8:06.38 followed by teammates Sofia Scouten (8:10.39), Daphne Karacay (9:37.45) and Cassandra Collins (10:12.89).

Corning’s Jordan Fajardo noticed his first win of the winter in the triple jump at 37-feet, 6 3/4-inches while teammate Jacob Hufnagel took fourth at 32-feet, 9 1/4-inches and Danny Marquez Ramos was sixth at 29-feet, 4 1/4-inches.

Abby Reppert won the high jump for the girls at 4-feet, 6-inches while Lillian Farrrand was fourth at 4-feet, 2-inches and Madeline Kirk was sixth at 3-feet, 9-inches.

John Hursh won the shot for Corning at 42-feet, 8-inches while teammates Chris Mechalke (41-feet, 5-inches) and Robert Oil (41-feet, 1 3/4-inches) took second and third. Gavin Grinnell finished sixth at 38-feet, 2 3/4-inches.

For the girls Elyssa DeRosa won the shot at 33-feet, 1 3/4-inches and Ashley Tubbs finished fifth at 24-feet, 4 3/4-inches while Kendall Curreri finished eighth at 21-feet, 5 1/2-inches followed by Madalyn Stetter at 21-feet, 5 1/2-inches.

DeRosa won the weight throw at 40-feet, 6 1/4-inches followed by Tubbs (28-feet, 5 1/2-inches), Stetter (27-feet, 9 3/4-inches). Curreri finished fifth at 22-feet, 11 1/4-inches.

Mechalke won the boys weight throw at 52-feet, 5 3/4-inches followed by teammates Michael Millow (42-feet, 4 1/4-inches) Daniel Casper took third at 41-feet, 5 1/4-inches and Hursh took seventh at 37-feet, 10 1/2-inches and Gavin Grinnell finished ninth at 35-feet, 8 1/2-inches.

Corning’s Dylan Rose was sixth in the 55 hurdles in 9.66 for the boys, while on the girls side Maddy Gill was second in 10.45 followed by Farrand at 10.46, while teammate Abby Reppert was eighth in 11.27 and teammate Joy Morey took 10th at 12.24.

In the boys’ 300 Lennard Jensen took fourth in 38.42 and for the girls Gerow finished fourth in 45.62 followed by teammate Cassandra Howard (45.65) and teammate Kirk was ninth (47.83).

In the boys’ 55 meters Ruffin finished eighth in 7.05 and Rijo was runner-up in the 600 in 1:54.85 followed by teammate Elianna Schneider (1:55.70). Urban took fifth in 1:57.81 and Corning’s Scouten took seventh in 2:03.03 followed by teammates Diem-Mi Nguyen (2:11.55) and Karacay (2:20.72).

Corning’s boys took third in the 1600 relay in 4:02.37 and the girls took fifth in 4:59.48.

Corning’s Ashton Bange was runner-up in the 1000 in 2:35.87 followed by teammate Jack Gregorski (2:39.51), while teammates Gabe Cornfield (2:40.68) and Tevin McLaren (2:42.83) took fifth and sixth respectively. Nathan Webb was eighth in 2:47.73 followed by Matt Gensel in 2:49.78.

Corning took second in the boys’ 3200 relay in 8:48.51.

Gabe Cornfield took fifth in the long jump at 18-feet, 1 1/4-inches and teammates Anthony Mendoza (16-feet, 9 1/2-inches followed by Hugo Mazzali (16-feet, 7 1/2-inches).

Sophia Polzella took second in the girls long jump at 13-feet, 11 1/2-inches and Leila Ianovici was fourth at 13-feet, 7-inches, while  Lilia Mack took fifth in 13-feet, 2-inches.

Corning’s Reppert was second in the high jump at 8-feet followed by Farrand at 6-feet.

Jensen was seventh in the high jump for the boys at 5-feet.
