INDOOR T&F: LOCALS FIND SUCCESS AT SECTION 4 CLASSIC (2022-01-16)

Elmira and Horseheads athletes had success at the Section 4 Classic at Cortland on Saturday.

Elmira had the top two finishers in the boys’ 1600. Ben Allen won in 4:55.97 followed by teammate Isaac May (5:06.18). Horseheads’ Elijah Friend was sixth in 5:26.60 and teammate John Cain was ninth in 5:32.01.

On the girls side in the 55 hurdles Horseheads had the top three finishers with Alexus Borek winning in 11.24 followed by teammates Amelia Ellison (11.85) and Lindsey Wood (12.00).

In the boys’ 1000 meters Elmira had three of the top four finishers. Nasir King was second in 2:48.90 followed by teammates Allen (2:50.30) and May (2:53.69). Horseheads’ Cain was seventh in 3:12.29 followed by teammate Nathan Zhou in 3:12.31.

King was third in the 600 in 1:36.96 followed by Horseheads’ Friend (1:39.68), Noah Ruffer (1:41.22) and Gavin Perry (1:41.65). Zhou was ninth in 1:45.84.

Horseheads’ Calvin Cragle was fifth in the 55 hurdles in 10.87 and Elmira’s Owen Weigle was runner-up in the 300 in 38.99 and teammate Don Bollinger was 10th in 42.19.

Ruffer was fourth in the long jump at 18-feet, 5-inches and Ruffer was fourth in the high jump at 5-feet, 2-inches.

Weigle won the triple jump followed by Horseheads’ Perry.

Cal Marks of Elmira was second in the shot put at 39-feet, 1-inch and Horseheads’ Matthew Finch was ninth at 26-feet, 8-inches followed by teammate Anthony Miller (20-feet).

For the girls Ana Mordvinova of Elmira was runner-up in the 1000 in 3:12.95 followed by teammate Emma Barends 3:43.67.

Horseheads’ Jennifer Kruckow was third in the 600 in 2:00.61 and teammate Tabitha Oakes was 10th in 2:12.52.

Mordvinova was second in the 1500 in 5:08.34 and Borek was fifth in the 300 in 49.89 while teammate Lucy McKenzie was eighth in 51.69.

Kruckow was runner-up in the long jump at 13-feet, 3 1/4-inches and she took sixth in the triple jump at 25-feet, 9 1/4-inches.

Borek was fourth in the high jump at 4-feet, 4-inches and Elmira’s Natasia Reynolds was third in the shot put at 28-feet, 7-inches while teammate Ashleigh Bertelsen was eighth at 23-feet, 2 1/2-inches and Elmira’s Catherine Lampman was 10th at 20-feet, 7-inches.
