TOURNAMENT WRESTLING: HORSEHEADS' JOHNSTON A CHAMPION AT BRADSHAW INVITE, RYAN MASSENGALE FINISHES THIRD (2022-01-15)

CANANDAIGUA — Gannon Johnston was a champion, and Ryan Massengale finished third for Horseheads at the Robert Bradshaw Invitational.

After a bye into the quarterfinals, Johnston pinned his way to the title at 285 pounds.

Johnston pinned Bennett Howell of Chenango Forks in 30 seconds in the quarterfinals and he pinned Ty Rader of Victor in the semifinals, before pinning Matt Jansen of Midlakes in the final in 1:36.

Massengale finished third at 118. After opening with a bye, he pinned Ryan Donnellan of Brighton in 2:53 to make the semifinals.

In the semifinals he fell to state champion Gianni Silvestri of Tioga by fall in 1:48. In the consolation round he pinned Scott Karpovich in 58 seconds then he pinned Jackson Ciocca of Pittsford in 28 seconds in the third-place match.

Coleton Owen was sixth place in the same weight. He pinned Aires Galbraith of Ithaca in 2:53 and then in the quarterfinals he won 3-0 over Ryan Parton of Penfield to make the semifinals.

In the semifinals he fell to Tioga’s Levi Bellis. In the consolation round he fell to Ciocca 6-3 and then was pinned by Karpovich in 2:28 in the fifth-place match.

Lucas Mosher finished sixth for Horseheads at 132. After a bye, he won 3-1 over Cody Quick of Palmyra Macedon and in the quarterfinals he pinned Ethan Barbera of Newark in 1:45 to make the semifinals.

In the semifinals Mosher fell to Cosmo Lucania of Webster Schroeder 6-0 before falling to Jacob Mendola of Webster Thomas 6-1 in the consolation round. IN the fifth place match he was pinned by Jack Lawson of Port Byron/Union Springs in 37 seconds.

Hunter Lavigne finished fifth for Horseheads at 189. He got a pin over Ed Heydens of Hilton in 2:14 and then he won in the quarterfinals by pinning Nicholas Ricotta of Webster Schroeder in 1:39.

Lavigne was pinned by Brett Rooks of Pamyra Macedon in 50 seconds in the semifinals, before falling in a tight 7-6 match to Trevor Leisten of Penfield in the consolation round. He then pinned Noah Debasitis of Victor in 3:29 in the fifth-place match.

Narayani Niraula was third in the varsity women’s 133-142 bracket. She was pinned by Penfield’s Eleanor Bode and Fairport’s Sophie Michaud.

Joel Scibek went 1-2 at 102 for the Blue Raiders. He had a pin over Tyler Chilson of Port Byron/Union-Springs.

Brian Park went 0-2 for the Blue Raiders at 110 and Seth Loucks was 0-2 at 126.

Cody Dale went 1-2 at 126. He got a pin in 1:41 over Aviv Kane, before falling to state-medalist Mason Welch. He dropped a tight 4-3 match to Noah Buys of Fairport in the consolation round.

Cael Owen also went 1-2 for the Blue Raiders. After dropping a match in the second round, he won his first consolation match by fall in 3:34 over Sam Gray of Brighton, before getting pinned in his next match.

William Lotocky was 1-2 at 145. He pinned Jasper Stockman-Simon in 26 seconds in his first match, before dropping two tight matches, 15-11 and 8-4.

Liam Levantovich went 3-2 at 152. Levantovich dropped his first match to Logan Palmeri of Fairport by fall in 2:24. He then pinned Chris Martinez of Port Byron/Union-Springs in 2:18 and won by major decision 11-0 over Dominick Fazzary of Odessa-Montour/Watkins Glen. He then won 6-1 over John Cahill of Webster Schroeder. He then fell to Emmett Wood of Tioga by major decision 9-1.

Luis Bohan went 0-2 at 160 for the Blue Raiders and Vicenzo Menard went 0-2 at 172 and Jacob Bennett was 0-2 at 189.
