COLLEGE TRACK & FIELD: CORNING GRAD BUTLER AN 800 METER ALL-AMERICAN (2021-08-20)

Corning graduate Lindsey Butler made her first trip to the track and field NCAA Outdoor Championships a special one. 

The Virginia Tech junior, who was an indoor All-American in the 800 meters, added outdoors first-team honors as she finished in sixth place with a time of 2:02.83.With 200 meters to go Butler flew from 10th place to sixth place to cement her spot as one of the best 800 runners in the nation. 

"Lindsey Butler finishing as a first team All American in the 800m at her first outdoor NCAA meet was a very good effort," Director of Track and Field Dave Cianelli said in a Virginia Tech press release. 

Prior to nationals, Butler finished second at the ACC Championships with a lifetime best of 2:01.32. 

During the indoor season the Corning graduate earned first-team All-America honors for the first time, finishing fourth in 2:02.15. She had won the ACC Championship with an indoor PR of 2:01.96. 

Butler was a state champion in high school at Corning, breaking the school record during her senior year with a 2:06.88. She also won the state title in the 600 indoors with a time of 1:30. 

Along with her 800 times, Butler has a career best 54.90 in the 400 in outdoors set this year, and a 4:14.43 in the 1500, also set this year. All of her indoor personal bests were also set this year, as she has a 1:30.94 in the 600 to go with her time in the 800 at the ACC Championships. She has a top time of 2:46.64 in the 1000 and a 4:40.35 in the mile.
