PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Elmira native Daniel Dimon scored his first goal of the season to get the scoring started and help lead the Elmira College Men’s Ice Hockey team to pick up a 5-2 win over New England.

The Elmira College Men's Ice Hockey team started off 2022 on the right foot with the win. After taking a 3-0 lead, the Pilgrims clawed for a pair of unanswered goals in the third period before Nicholas Domitrovic '24 and Chance Gorman '24 (empty net) put the game away for the Soaring Eagles. For Gorman, it was his 18th point of the season which is good for third in the New England Hockey Conference and his tenth straight game registering at least point.

Since returning from an injury sustained earlier this season, Domitrovic has registered points in five of six games. His three-point game this evening marks a career-best.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles opened the scoring early, as Elmira native Daniel Dimon '24 scored on assists from Janis Vizbelis '24 and Domitrovic in just the sixth minute of play. From there, the Soaring Eagles and Pilgrims picked up the physicality on both ends, with Elmira carrying a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Out of the break, it took the Soaring Eagles just 15 seconds to get extend its lead as Gorman scored on an assist from Ryan Reifler '24 after some crafty passing between the two. Nearing the end of the period following a five-minute major for the Pilgrims, it was Domitrovic who scored his first of the night after rebounding his own shot and finding the back of the net from the left side.

Carrying a 2-0 lead into the third, Elmira would concede a pair of goals near the midway point in the final period, with the second being scored on a power-play opportunity. Elmira would answer the call and bring momentum back to the home side after Domitrovic scored once again, unassisted, on a short-handed goal.

Forced to pull the goaltender, New England College would let in one final goal off the stick of Gorman, who received assists from Reifler and Jake Russo '23 to put the game away, 5-2.

Chris Janzen '21 would earn the win in net after playing 60 minutes and making 11 saves in net.
