ON TAP TODAY: BUSY DAY OF LOCAL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTED BY ELMIRA AT HORSEHEADS BOYS (2022-01-07)

Southern Tier Sports Report
It’s a busy Friday of local sports, highlighted by the Elmira at Horseheads boys’ basketball matchup, while a number of area teams head to tournaments this weekend.

Here’s a look at the day’s events.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL
ELMIRA AT HORSEHEADS, 7:30 P.M.
For the first time this year the Horseheads boys play a home game. Horseheads is 4-1 on the year and honorable mention in the state rankings. They are coming off a loss to Corning, their first loss of the year, while Elmira was edged by Ithaca in their last game.

CORNING AT ITHACA, 5:30 P.M.
The Hawks are unbeaten at 6-0 on the year as they head to Ithaca for a STAC matchup.

TRUMANSBURG AT EDISON, 7:30 P.M.
The Spartans look for their first win of the year as they play host to Trumansburg.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
ITHACA AT CORNING, 6 P.M.
Corning’s girls rolled to a win over Horseheads in their last game and are now 6-1 on the year. It’s a varsity only game that begins at 6 p.m.

EDISON AT TRUMANSBURG, 7:30 P.M.
On Thursday the Spartans won their fifth straight game, now they hit the road looking for number six in a row.

WRESTLING
ELMIRA AT ONEONTA TOURNAMENT, 2:45 P.M.
The Express head to Oneonta for a wrestling tournament. Elmira is coming off a loss to Binghamton in a dual meet on Thursday.

SWIMMING & DIVING
CORNING, HORSEHEADS AT WATKINS GLEN INVITE, 4:30 P.M.
Horseheads and Corning head to Watkins Glen for an Invitational. Corning is lead by Ryan McNutt, who has already qualified for states in nearly every event he has swam this year and has some of the top times in the state. Emmett Hanson of Horseheads qualified for states in his last event.

MAINE-ENDWELL AT ELMIRA, 5:30 P.M.
The Express host a STAC matchup. Elmira fell to Horseheads on Tuesday in their last match.

TRACK AND FIELD
NOTRE DAME, ELMIRA, HORSEHEADS AT CORTLAND, 6 P.M.
Area athletes head to Cortland for an indoor track and field meet.
