HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD: CORNING BOYS AND GIRLS WIN WAITE-MOLNAR INVITE AS LOCALS HAVE STRONG DAY (24 PHOTOS) (2024-04-28)

ELMIRA — The Corning boys and girls each won titles at the Waite-Molnar Invitational on Saturday at Elmira High School.

For the girls Corning edged Horseheads by three points, scoring 107 to 104 for Horseheads. Edison was fifth at 60 points, Elmira was seventh at 37 and Notre Dame was eighth at five points.

For the boys Corning had 128 to win. Horseheads was fourth at 66 points and Elmira was sixth at 38. Edison was seventh at 36 points and Notre Dame was ninth at one point.

In the girls 100 Naudia Inness of Elmira was sixth in 14.69 followed by Corning’s Kaylee Scolaro in 14.80.

Edison’s Hannah Lasko was second in the 200 in 28.86 followed by Horseheads’ Marlynn Flint (29.72) and Andrea Benjamin(31.01). Edison’s Makya Derenzo was sixth in 31.88 followed by Avi’yonna Swan of Elmira in 35.18.

Lasko won the 400 in 1:04.15 followed by Elmira’s Makayla Robicheaux in 1:04.65. Corning’s Emma Maase was sixth in 1:07.79 followed by Scolaro in 1:08.20.

Corning’s Madie Sweet was second in the 800 in 2:42.98 followed by Horseheads’ Cecilia Cowen in 2:44.55 with Madelyn Wise of Elmira fifth in 2:49.91 followed by Corning’s Jenna Rosenkrans (2:55.55) and Sofia Scouten (2:58.97).

Olivia Martinec of Corning won the 1500 in 4:59.36 with teammate Elianna Schneider fourth in 5:15.31. Horseheads’ Sophia Jones was seventh in 5:47.23.

Mayla Falank of Edison was second in the 3000 in 13:15.85 with Horseheads’ Tabitha Oakes fourth in 14:21.72 followed by teammate Evelyn Theetge (17:14.85).

Horseheads’ Sophie Shutter won the 100 hurdles in 18.07 with Elmira’s Zalayna Brown third in 18.21 followed by Notre DAme’s Makenna Keough (18.69), Horseheads’ Erica Bancroft (19.24), Corning’s Shyanne Roney (19.77) and Edison’s Sabou Diakite was eighth in 20.72.

Alexus Borek of Horseheads won the 400 hurdles in 1:10.68 with teammate Stella Harrison third in 1:20.45. Diakite was fourth in 1:28.80 and teammate Riley Thresher was sixth in 1:39.36.

Olivia Murch of Corning won the 2000 steeplechase in 7:49.41 followed by teammates Sadie Beres (8:02.96) and Meghan McLaughlin (8:16.12), Edison’s Falank (9:31.71) Harrison of Horseheads (9:45.56) and Sophia Mirando of Edison (10:13.12).

Corning won the girls’ 4x100 meter weightman relay in 1:07.74 followed by Elmira in 1:10.14 and Edison in 1:14.96.

Edison’s Allyson Balash, Isabella Lamb, Cayleigh Cowan and Makya Derenzo took third in the 4x100 relay in 1:00.34.

Shutter, Bancroft, Joanna Benjamin and Borek won the 1600 relay for Horseheads in 4:33.59. Elmira’s Zoey Brooks, Jazae Watkins-White, Robicheaux and Wise took third in 4:58.31 followed by Edison’s Thresher, Mirando, Reagan Peris and Arabella Mirando in 5:42.03.

Joanna Benjamin, Sophia Jones, Grace Wilson and Cecilia Cowen won the 3200 relay for Horseheads in 11:17.29 with Edison’s Peris, Falank, Thresher and Alexis Mosher third in 13:00.19.

Roney won the high jump at 5-feet followed by Sweet at 4-feet, 6-inches.

Lauren Williams of Corning was second in the pole vault at 5-feet, 6-inches followed by Madelyn Morrison of Edison at the same height.

Zalayna Brown of Elmira was second in the long jump at 15-feet, 1/4-inches with Emma Mase of Corning fifth at 14-feet, 3/4-inches followed by Andrea Benjamin of Horseheads at 13-feet, 11 3/4-inches.

Borek won the triple jump at 29-feet, 8-inches with Inness third at 28-feet followed by Bancroft at 27-feet, 2 1/4-inhes. Allyson Balash of Edison was sixth at 25-feet, 6 3/4-inches.

Isabella Rivera of Horseheads won the shot put at 32-feet, 7-inches with Corning’s Sophia Cimo third at 30-feet, 2 1/2-inches with Samantha Harvey of Corning fifth at 28-feet, 11-inches.

Cimo won the discus at 92-feet, 6-inches followed by teammate Madelane Reynolds at 85-feet, 2-inches. Rivera was seventh at 65-feet, 9-inches.

For the boys in the 100 Elmira’s DJ Coprew was second in 11.87 with Horseheads’ Chase Luangsuwan fifth at 12.11 and Nicholas Brucie of Corning eighth at 12.18.

Edison’s Cody Lucero was second in the 200 in 23.88 followed by Coprew (24.16) and Elmira’s Ta’hjay Molina-Bacome at 24.47. Corning’s Luke Mertus was sixth at 25.12 followed by teammate Alex Kolpien.

Lucero was second in the 400 in 53.43 with Horseheads’ Matt Mucci fourth in 54.63. Elmira’s Darius Hubbard was sixth in 55.30 followed by Corning’s Zachary Thomas in 55.47.

DJ Cornfield of Corning won the 800 in 1:59.77 followed by teammate Jaxyn Mahoney in 2:01.56.

Kiran Gulati of Horseheads won the 1600 in 4:52.56. Charles Warner of Corning was second at 4:54.13 with Corning’s Samuel Kirk sixth at 5:11.17.

Gregory Homa of Corning won the 3200 in 10:18.70 followed by teammate Nicholas Ferratella in 10:21.19 and Horseheads’ Nicholas Kowal in 10:32.41. Horseheads’ Max Williams was fifth in 10:38.94.

In the 110 hurdles Dylan Rose of Corning won in 16.38 with Horseheads’ Carlo Cipolla fourth in 16.93. Edison’s Auggie Ector was sixth in 20.27 followed Nolan Cruise of Horseheads in 20.47.

Horseheads’ Nolan Cruise was second in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.49 followed by Corning’s Connor Calkins in 1:11.89 and Rose (1:13.79).

Aiden Kahabka won the 3000 steeplechase in 10:36.74 with Horseheads’ Logan Hornsby fourth in 11:52.73 and Ashtyn Stark of Corning next in 11:57.34.

Horseheads won the 4x100 weightman relay in 54.28 followed by Edison (57.15), Corning (58.38) and Elmira (1:04.54).

Elmira’s Nasir Bradford, Darius Hubbard, Coprew and Molina-Bacone took second in the 4x100 relay in 46.69. Corning’s Brucie, Devin Ianovici, Jacob Deneka and John Tally took fourth in 47.94 followed by Cipolla, Christian Thomas, Elvonus Tyler and Connor Trimber took fifth in 49.08.

Mucci, Samir Gulati, Bradock Salisbury and Ryan Anderson won the 1600 relay for Horseheads in 3:31.10 with Corning’s Cornfield, Dexter Badger, Mahoney and Kolpien took third at 3:39.36 with Elmira’s Jiven Mann, Skyler Young, John Calabrese and Braxton Houghtelling fifth at 3:53.56.

Kowal, Nathan Zhou, Samir Gulati and Kiran Gulati won the 3200 relay in 8:31.74 with Edison’s Brenden Smith, Darius Kelley, Kaleb Podoliak and Garrison Balash took fourth in 9:47.11 followed by Corning’s Thomas Caruso, Colten Ketchum, Dominik Davis and Thomas VanSlyke in 10:01.60 and Ayden Coleman, Nicholas Bowes, John Calabrese and Duane Nichols sixth in 10:07.98.

Rose won the high jump at 5-feet, 10-inches followed by Elmira’s Bradford at 5-feet, 8-inches. Jayden Moore of Corning was fifth at 5-feet, followed by Notre Dame’s Antonio Campanella and Devin Godwin of Horseheads at the same height.

Corning’s Nathaniel Jennings won the pole vault at 13-feet, 7-inches followed by teammate Maxwell Jennings (11-feet). Kohler Brass of Corning was sixth at 7-feet, 6-inches.

Corning’s Luke Mertus was fifth in the long jump at 18-fee,t 7-inches with Jacob Deneka of Corning seventh at 16-feet, 8- 1/4-inches.

Zimear Young of Edison was fifth in the triple jump at 38-feet, 7 3/4-inches followed by Corning’s Eddie Jiang (37-feet, 6-inches).

In the shot put Talon LaPlante of Edison was second at 46-feet, 5-inches with teammate Brycen Guinnip fourth at 41-feet followed by Horseheads’ Joey Biviano (37-feet, 11-inches) and Corning’s Freddie Collins (37-feet, 9-inches) and Logan Mullaney (37-feet, 5-inches).

Corning’s Collins took fourth in the discus at 115-feet, 2-inches followed by Horseheads’ Noah Rangstorm at 114-feet, 5-inches followed by Edison’s LaPlante (114-feet, 1-inch) and Guinnip (107-feet, 7-inches).
