Southern Tier Sports ReportVESTAL — A five-run third inning was the difference as the Horseheads baseball team fell at Vestal 5-3 on Thursday night.
Down 5-0, Horseheads got three runs in the fifth, but that’s as close as they would get, despite out-hitting the Golden Bears 8-6.
Cooper Ball had two hits and scored a run in the game.
Josh Stout had a hit for Horseheads and Dom Russ had a hit and an RBI, while Mason Holloway had a hit and two RBI.
Micah Hays had a hit and Trevor Reidy had a hit. Patrick Laney had a hit and scored a run.
Hays went 3 1/3 inning, allowing four hits and the five runs, just one earned. He struck out five.
Freshman Ball worked 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four and allowing two hits.
