HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: CORNING HANDS ITHACA FIRST STAC LOSS IN FOUR YEARS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-03-27)

CORNING — The Corning tennis team handed Ithaca their first STAC loss in four years as they edged the Little Red 4-3 on Wednesday.

The Hawks were the last STAC team to beat the Little Red as well, four seasons ago.

On Tuesday the second doubles team of Djordje Marjonovic and Cole Hawkins wrapped up the victory for Corning.

The key match on the day for the Hawks was first singles player Denis Khrapko who rallied from a set down to win at first singles.

Khrapko won 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Aidan Xie at first singles.

In second singles Alex Peng won 6-4, 6-4 over Jonah Jacobstein and at fourth singles Sam Masaki won 6-4, 6-3 over Ehhay Htoo.

Marjonovic and Hawkins won 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 over Mukund Gaur and Theo Greenwald-Scheye.

Ithaca’s Kieran Shielman won 6-4, 6-3 over Connor Martinec at third singles.

In first doubles Ithaca’s Orion Patty and Luke Huang won 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 10-6 and at third doubles Owen Cryer and Alan Martinez won 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 11-9 over Owen Roloson and Derek Guo.
