HORSEHEADS — On a day where Horseheads pitching was lights out, longtime Blue Raiders coach Jeff Limoncelli picked up win number 400 as Horseheads beat Binghamton, 17-1.

“I have been fortunate in this district to be able to coach this long and have so many good kids as well as baseball players,” Limoncelli said. “This win is only because I’ve been here a long time. But, no, when I think about this I think about everybody I have coached and the relationships and it’s been a long, really fun career.”

It’s been a lot of great players over the year for Horseheads, and on Tuesday one of those great players put on a show. Mason Holloway worked five innings for the Blue Raiders, getting 14 of his 15 outs by strikeout, and allowing just one hit.

“That’s Mason, he throws strikes, he competes and it’s fun to have him,” Limoncelli said.

For Holloway it’s special to be a part of Limonelli’s milestone win.

“It’s great,” he said. “He’s had a long experience, I’m glad to be with him for it.”

Limoncelli knows that it’s the players over the years who have helped make 400 a reality.

“I never threw a strike,” Limoncelli said. “I never got a hit, or I never made a play for these guys. They did it. You have got to have players and our players have played well over the years that I’ve been here. And, they have allowed us to have some good season so it’s been fun.”

Tuesday was a fun game for Horseheads as they scored 11 runs in the first two innings of the run.

“Relaxes you a ton,” Holloway said of the early lead.

This win for Horseheads was something different as it came in the month of March.

“I don’t think we’ have ever played in March before,” Limoncelli said. “This is great, we got one in and we’ll get back to work tomorrow.”

For the players it’s special to get a game this early in the year.

“It’s great to be out here,” Holloway said. “Coming back, everybody on this team loves it, it’s a great feeling.”

It was a dominant day all around for Horseheads as the pitching combined to strike out 18, with Alex Wood going two innings, allowing one run on two walks with four strikeouts.

For Holloway, who is a junior, a big season last year has the confidence high this year.

“It’s high,” he said. “Learning a lot from last year. Having a great team behind me to help me. The confidence is up.”

Micah Hays had two doubles, two runs scored and four RBI for Horseheads and Josh Stout had two hits and two runs scored.

Trevor Reidy had two hits and scored three runs and Kegan Monahan had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.

Dom Russ had a hit and scored three runs and Holloway scored three runs.

Devin Sullivan had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Zac Giammichele had a double, while Dylan Schrock finished with a hit and an RBI and Connor Ball had a hit and scored a run.
