ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Coming off trip to the state final four the Edison softball team is back to work preparing for a new season.

“I can’t believe it’s already here,” Edison coach Liv Warren said. “I’m excited to be back, we have a really good crew back this year, 12 out of 14 returning from last year, and two new additions who are going to keep them working hard. So, I’m excited.”

The first week of practice was nice as warm weather let the Spartans get on the field.

“100% we got to do our runs outside,” Warren said. “They were loving it. Felt like spring and got us ready for what’s to come. We hope the good weather comes back and we can get rolling.”

Last week was colder, and wetter, which had the Spartans inside most of the week.

“I think Mother Nature knew softball was coming, so that’s why it started snowing,” Warren said. “I’m hoping we get to get outside soon, but we’ll replicate the best we can inside for now.”

This year will be a little different for the Spartans as they move up a Class to Class B for this season.

“Definitely going to be an adjustment,” Warren said. “But, I know it’s a challenge we are ready to live up to. We got to play some bigger schools last year during our season and I think that prepared us for the postseason, but also for this year, for the transition up.”
